Hamilton Ontario’s first and only luxury, private piercing studio.
Our story
Heartache Studios was born from love, friendship, and loss.
After 12 years in the piercing industry, Kayla set out to bring her dream studio to life in the community that raised her.
Piercing has always held a special place in her heart. Whether it be the aesthetic side, working safely with individual anatomy and style; or the way we use it to celebrate the joys and commemorate the lows of the human experience.
Heartache sets out to create a space where you are the only focus, with private appointments where you can celebrate the ever-changing phases of life.
Heartache will be no exception to the high standards of jewelry quality Kayla has adhered to throughout her career. Carrying only the best, body-safe 14k & 18k yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold, alongside implant grade titanium (ASTM F-136) and implant grade steel (ASTM F-138), all with lifetime guarantees.
Fully disposable piercing procedures and safe healing practices will, as always, adhere to the standards and guidelines set forth by the Association of Professional Piercers.

From the Owner,
It feels like a natural progression, opening my own studio space after spending so many years in studios where ideals conflicted - to want to create something of my own and connect with others through something I love so dearly. To find joy, solace, or solidarity in the collective experience of existing.
Each client over the years has left a lasting impression on me, while a little part of me has gone into every procedure I’ve preformed.
To know my clients are the focus every day, that I will never have to compromise my standards, and that every single client that walks through the door will be met with the kindness, and compassion they deserve makes the tougher years in the industry worth it.
By creating this company I hope to both find and grow myself, while continuing to commemorate the good, the bad, and the ugly life throws our way.
From my heart to yours,
Kayla Frees.
“There are two tragedies in life: one is to lose your heart’s desire. The other is to gain it.”
